Singer/Songwriter Showcase

December 31, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Host and performer Jim Colbert first played his songs in public two days before his fortieth birthday. Performing originals with subject matter ranging from Centralia’s mine fire and old Buicks to the dying mill towns of the rust belt, Colbert’s songs offer an cross section of America seen through the eyes of a life-long Pennsylvanian. Colbert has taken first place in numerous songwriting competitions, performs regularly throughout the Northeast, and  is currently working on a recording project at RAL Studio in Lemont, PA.

Joe Pillot was strongly influenced by the singer/songwriters of the 60s and 70’s. Joe performs his Americana-flavored works mainly as an acoustic solo act although he has collaborated and performed in a few bands over the years and works on occasion as a duo act with singer songwriter, recording engineer Steve Treado. Pillot gained experience performing with local bands Country Fever and Joe Pillot and the Cash Flow Band.

Born in the hollerin’ hills of New York City, Gwen Stimely spent most of her growing up years in east Tennessee, where the music sank in pretty deep. She’s been performing with the Tussey Mountain Moonshiners and Poe Valley Troubadours for a number of years. She’s recently taken the plunge to peforming more of her own songs solo. Gwen’s song Central Pennsylvania Moon won the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest in 2009.

Mary Madigan has been playing her guitars since her first talent show in 6th grade. She began singing with her 5 siblings & her father as soon as she could speak! A large upright piano in the family foyer was always in use. Her early guitar skills were formed by watching her older siblings play & a gifted guitar from her big sister , with a chord chart,  sent her on a wonderful musical life journey. She enjoys playing all types of music & also has become a part of State College’s singer songwriter community. She is grateful for all the support shown from her musical colleagues & so very happy to be returning to State College First Night to share her original music with all!

Steve Treado is a singer, songwriter, musician, music teacher and audio/video producer from State College, PA. He operates Hedgerow Studio which he designed and built from the ground up, and which provides audio and video recording and production services. In addition to performing regular both solo and with bands, he has been a regular open mic and musician showcase host. A multi-instrumentalist playing piano, organ, bass, mandolin and drums, Steve has released four albums since 2017.
