SUMMARY:Adam Swartz Puppets - Around the World in Five Folktales
DESCRIPTION:Travel around the world without leaving your seat! Adam Swartz Puppets presents five different versions of a familiar story with a variety of puppetry styles\, and lots of help from the audience.  Can you recognize this tale from China\, Egypt\, Ireland\, Canada\, and right here where you live?  Discover the differences and similarities that make stories from many cultures both unique and unifying.  Audience members work together to create a brand-new twist for an old-old tale. \nAdam Schwartz has been traveling the United States since 1999\, using his powers of storytelling and puppetry for good. \nFor Adam Swartz Puppets\, Adam creates and performs original\, interactive puppet shows to entertain and educate crowds of all ages. He directs summer theater camps and presents year-round workshops for children and adults and is a registered artist with the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and participates in extended residency programs with Galaxy Arts in Education and Arts Erie in Pennsylvania. \nAdam also designs and builds puppets for other artists. In addition to puppeteering\, acting\, and doing technical work for his own theatre company and others\, Adam is a storyteller for Middle Earth Studios in Stony Run\, Pennsylvania. \nAdam will also hold a small puppet building workshop at 7:30 pm in Westminster Hall at the State College Presbyterian Church. \nA First Night button is required for this performance.

DESCRIPTION:Folklore refers to a body of popular music created in Argentina outside the urban center of Buenos Aires. Based on indigenous dance rhythms like the zamba\, cueca\, chacarera\, carnavalito and vidala\, these songs were passed on through oral tradition and were virtually unknown outside their own region until the early 20th century. They then became a part of Argentina’s regional and national identity. Tierradentro explores this rich trove of music\, adding their own colors and textures and expanding the forms of these songs while retaining their rhythmic essence and powerful poetry. \nA First Night Button is required for this performance.

DESCRIPTION:Local musicians Eric Ian Farmer\, Ady Martinez\, and Naty Martinez offer a blend of songs across decades and languages — mainly\, English and Spanish but they also sneak a Swahili song in there — from Valerie to Vivir Mi Vida\, Tonada De Luna Llena to Lean On Me\, and their own rendition of Malaika.  State College-born and North Carolina-bred singer/songwriter Eric Ian Farmer collaborates with an array of local musicians\, and he recently performed in a 7-piece as Eric Ian Farmer & Friends for WPSU’s The Local Groove Presents.  Ady Martinez (born Adianez Milaris Martinez) is a cuatro player\, known through her distinctive style of Latin-inspired music. Fronting a local outfit\, Ady’s Latin Band\, she hails from La Guaira\, on the coast of Venezuela\, and is of Afro-Venezuelan\, Spanish\, and Indigenous Venezuelan ancestry.Naty Martinez\, who comes from a family of singers and percussionists\, is a Venezuelan musician living in State College whose style reflects a mix of traditional Latin music and her love for jazz and R&B. \nA First Night Button is required for this performance.
