Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Downtown State College
First Night State College takes place in downtown State College, Pennsylvania and on the adjacent University Park campus of The Pennsylvania State University each New Year’s Eve. It’s a great event for the whole family!
There are one-block ice sculptures in front of downtown businesses, on the Mayor Welch Plaza, and in Sidney Friedman Park. Don’t miss the giant ice walls on the 100 block of South Allen Street. Take in a vaudeville show or musical performance – or two, or three! We have something for every musical taste, from classical to rock, including bluegrass, folk, and jazz.
No celebration of New Year’s Eve would be complete without resolutions. Our resolution sculptures provide the perfect opportunity to say “out with the old and in with the new!” After grabbing a bite to eat – at a restaurant or from one of our food vendors – you’ll probably feel just a tad romantic — the perfect time for a carriage ride through downtown!
Be sure to sign up for our ever-popular 5K Resolution Run, too. It’s even more fun if you wear a costume! And if that’s not enough exercise, take the CATA White Loop to Pegula Ice Arena for an evening of ice skating!
Your First Night button is your ticket to about 50 great performances and other events! Pick yours up at area merchants or order them online during the last couple of weeks of December.
And by all means, stay the night! Several State College hotels offer special First Night packages each year.
As a non-profit organization, we depend a great deal on the generosity of others. We’re grateful to all the individuals and organizations who support First Night each year. Our major sponsors for 2016 are featured below. You can see the complete list of sponsors here, and a list of our other supporters here.
More sponsors, as well as other donors and volunteers, are always welcome!
